BIOGRAPHY

TOJO THOMAS, M.D.

Dr. Tojo Thomas is a board-certified gastroenterologist who has over 10 years of clinical experience. He grew up in the Alief and Sugar Land areas, and is privileged to now be serving this community. He completed his undergraduate studies at Rice University, then attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed both his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago, and maintains his board certification in Internal Medicine. He then completed his Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

While in medical school, residency and fellowship, Dr. Thomas participated in clinical research on various topics including GERD, Clostridium difficile, and the use of radiographic imaging in Crohn’s disease. During his fellowship, Dr. Thomas also participated in the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America’s month long visiting Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fellow Program at the University of Chicago, one of the country’s leading IBD centers. Dr. Thomas’s current clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer prevention, fatty liver disease, and hepatitis therapies. He is an active member of the Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society, and the American Gastroenterological Association.

He believes in the importance of diagnostic testing and medical therapies, but also advocates for the application of practical lifestyle and non-medical therapies in helping his patients rebalance their gastrointestinal systems.

In his free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys watching Houston sports, coaching his two boys in multiple youth sports, and spending time with his family. He is an avid, mostly plant-based runner, who is a two-time Boston Marathon qualifier.
