Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF)

Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF)

Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) is an advanced endoscopic procedure done for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux symptoms, such as heartburn or regurgitation. This endoscopic procedure allows some patients to avoid surgical management. Patient often recover faster and with fewer complications than surgical treatments.

During the procedure, the physician uses a special device to repair the body’s reflux barrier. This device uses fasteners but no incisions, allowing for faster recovery times for patients.

Studies have shown that TIF is a safe and effective therapy for carefully selected patients with mild to moderate gastroesophageal reflux disease who have responded well to traditional medical management.

Recovery from TIF may take up to six weeks. Patients are usually instructed to maintain a soft diet during that time.
